Artrocker.com said
"The Total Drop's Anna guides the wonderfully DIY label 'Snakes and Ladders' through a fine selection of bristlingly artful releases (Roaring Twenties and Shock Defeat for starters) but with their new single 'Your Excellency / Altitude' out this month her own combo can really make their own mark.
It's two tracks charm like the whole of last year's 'Love Is All' album with equal parts spiked post Yeah Yeah Yeahs New Wave and C86 jangling Shop Assistants indie. Along with Leeds' Sky Larkin, The Total Drop are exciting shining examples of future artpop - more Long Blondes than Hot Puppies."

Rugged Individualism, the third release from the elusive Fat Abbots is released on April Fools' Day 2007 (01.04.07)! The band released two records before teaming up with Snakes & Ladders, their debut farewell album The Fat Abbots are Shit and Dead and the now-almost-legendary Live and Religious.

Real Tales of NYC
So finally to our week out in the Big Apple, and what a week it was... Firstly The Total Drop played 3 amazing shows at Trash Bar, Arlene's Grocery and Pianos. We'd like to send huge thank yous to everyone who made these nights possible, welcomed us, supported us, especially the guys from JP05, Jesus Speed, The Vandelles and Frances, to the dancing girls down the front, and also to Jasper at Pianos, Jim for setting the whole thing in motion and the barman at Fanelli's.
We got rid of all the CDs we took out there. In fact, our NYC friends can now get S&L label samplers, Total Drop EPs and Shock Defeat!'s debut single in The Cake Shop, Other Music, Bleecker Bob's, Mondo Kim's and Downtown Music Gallery.
So what else? Well, apart from the gigs, we spent the week trekking around the city handing out CDs and flyers, meeting Nick Zinner and Sean Lennon (eh?), doing some underage drinking, looking at Picassos, considering Popeye chicken & biscuits (they're not biscuits), parading with Poles, eating economy candy, buying guitars, spying on neon fortune tellers, having lock-ins with Camus-reading barmen and narrowly missing becoming font-page news (for the wrong reasons) when we were almost crushed by a collapsing crane (no joke, go here for full story). We also scared a crazy thick-spectacled old lady in the room next door when James attempted disco acrobatics at 4 in the morning...
We made some great friends, ate some big food, drank some free drinks. Laughter ensued. Next time we're taking all the bands, world, we're coming for ya!

Artrocker celebrates the return of DIY by collecting tracks from ten pioneering independent labels, and presenting them on a FREE CD with issue 43 of the magazine, in the shops August 16.

S&L are going to NYC! Shock Defeat single!!
Snakes & Ladders Records are taking The Total Drop to New York City at the end of September for a series of events to promote the label. So far we have two dates confirmed (29th September @ Trash Bar in Williamsburg and 30th Sept @ Pianos in Manhattan) with more in the pipeline. The aim of the trip is also to get the Snakes & Ladders sampler CD into as many shops as possible, continuing label's slow but steady 'trojan horse' ethos. Watch this space for more... In other equally exciting news, Snakes & Ladders are to release the forthcoming single from the breathtaking Shock Defeat! to coincide with the S&L extravaganza that will be Plugs Night at Highbury's Hope & Anchor on September 23rd (Plugs + Shock Defeat! + The Total Drop). S&L also plans to release singles by The Roaring Twenties and The Total Drop before the year is out.
Oh, and The Roaring Twenties funked and rocked the sweaty Buffalo Bar last night as part of the weekly Artrocker club night. Gorgeous work boys, pictures up soon!

Thanks especially to the fabulous Chowchow, The Total Drop, The Roaring Twenties and Shock Defeat! who turned a rainy night into a euphoric party. Pics now online.
S&L stalwarts The Roaring Twenties are fast becoming Artrocker radio favourites - and they're playing the magazine's weekly night at Buffalo Bar, Islington on July 25th. Rock 'em boys!

The launch nights at Nambucca and The Freebutt last week were really successful, we had quadruple the expected turnout for both nights (more badges available soon), with everyone putting on their Sunday best for S&L. Special thanks to the bands - we had amazing sets from Plugs, Catnap, The Liquor Store, The Total Drop and The Roaring Twenties - to Jo and Liz for doing the door, Jamie for S&L 'brand' biscuits, to James and Stef for DJ antics and to everyone else who came down to reprezent!
Photos from both nights and after-shows online now!
